SANDY'S COMING...Charge up that Kindle, Nook and Ipad!

Charge up your Kindles, Nooks and ipads. I have. It's coming! I dread it. Seems over the last few years we have had some severe storms that knock out our electricity...for a while. Last winter I lost electricity for three days! My neighbors lost theirs for over a week.

I say this for a couple of reasons. First if you don't hear from me for a few days, you'll know the reason. Second, if you're in the area that it's being affected...be prepared. Charge up your devices with some great books. I have. This is the last few days of Octoberfest.

Since its right before Halloween....

Happy Birthday Whispers of a Legend!

Life is good. Whispers of a Legend saga was released a year ago today!

AMAZON, BARNES AND NOBLE

This is a great month. I love the Fall. It’s my favorite time of the year. Also over on Novel Works, I’m hosting Octoberfest With Books. I love it. You know why…because I get to meet some really great authors and people. I’m an avid reader. I so enjoy reading.  Just got through with a book by Johanna Lindsey, Let Love Find You. I have so many favorite authors, but Johanna Lindsey is high on my list.
You know how you get a craving at times. I know I do. Like I just found the best buffalo cheese spread that is awesome. Can’t keep it in my house. I get cravings for books by certain authors too—like now—I can’t get enough of Johanna Lindsey.
That’s why I enjoy Octoberfest With Books so much. I always find an author that I get hooked on. The first two weeks have gone awesome. I love hosting Wild Rose Press Authors. I have to say they are great interacting and supporting each other.

OCTOBERFEST WITH BOOKS

Then, of course, Crescent Moon Press… I have a soft spot for Crescent Moon Press. This month marks a year that I released my first Indie book. Whispers of a Legend saga was published because of Crescent Moon Press. Let me explain. Whispers of a Legend is different from any other book I’ve written. I was attending the New England Romance Writers Conference. I had the opportunity to present a book to Crescent Moon Press who was in attendance.
Crescent Moon Press publishes paranormal and fantasy stories. I don’t have any problem writing paranormal, but the only book I had was one I wrote years and years ago. I presented it to Crescent Moon with no expectations. It was a different type of story, not falling into any particular genre.
I was pleasantly surprised when Crescent Moon Press said they liked it and thought it had a lot of potential. I submitted the whole manuscript. Then while Crescent Moon Press was considering Whispers, I decided to go Indie with a few books. I picked Whispers as my first attempt. I did so because Crescent Moon Press gave me the confidence that my book could be successful. When I withdrew my submission, they couldn't have been more supportive.
That was a year ago... and what a year! A year today...I remember it well because it was my birthday. It's one of the reason I enjoy being an Indie. You have control of such things like release dates.
I have so much to be thankful for this year. I've learned so much. I have so many people to thank for this experience...family, friends, authors and readers. I can't tell you how grateful I am.
My catch phase for Whispers of a Legend...The Legend continues... and so it does.

So today I'm celebrating Whispers... Whispers of a Legend, Part One-Shadows of the Past is Free- everywhere Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords...everywhere. The first three parts of Whispers I have put under one cover, Whispers of a Legend, Volume I. That's what I'm offering someone today. Comment here, Facebook, or Novel Works for your chance to win a copy of Whispers of a Legend, Volume I.

I also have another gift to you today—some book suggestions from the group of books I have posted this week. Hope you find one you enjoy. Don't forget —coming in November—Whispers of a Legend, Part Four-TIME OF THE NUXVENOM!

Wool

WOOL by Hugh Howey

Over 2,000 reviews on Amazon alone with a 5 star rating. I'm a huge fan of Hugh Howey. Released only in July 2011- This one I highly recommend!

This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

The Darkening Dream

THE DARKENING DREAM by Andy Gavin

I love fantasy book like this one. Another book that is highly reveiwed.

The Darkening Dream is the chilling new dark fantasy novel by Andy Gavin, creator of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter.

Even as the modern world pushes the supernatural aside in favor of science and steel, the old ways remain. God, demon, monster, and sorcerer alike plot to regain what was theirs.

1913, Salem, Massachusetts - Sarah Engelmann's life is full of friends, books, and avoiding the pressure to choose a husband, until an ominous vision and the haunting call of an otherworldly trumpet shake her. When she stumbles across a gruesome corpse, she fears that her vision was more of a premonition. And when she sees the murdered boy moving through the crowd at an amusement park, Sarah is thrust into a dark battle she does not understand.
With the help of Alex, a Greek immigrant who knows a startling amount about the undead, Sarah sets out to uncover the truth. Their quest takes them to the factory mills of Salem, on a midnight boat ride to spy on an eerie coastal lair, and back, unexpectedly, to their own homes. What can Alex's elderly, vampire-hunting grandfather and Sarah's own rabbi father tell them? And what do Sarah's continuing visions reveal?
No less than Gabriel's Trumpet, the tool that will announce the End of Days, is at stake, and the forces that have banded to recover it include a 900 year-old vampire, a trio of disgruntled Egyptian gods, and a demon-loving Puritan minister. At the center of this swirling cast is Sarah, who must fight a millennia-old battle against unspeakable forces, knowing the ultimate prize might be herself.

Pegasus Falling

PEGASUS FALLING by William E Thomas

I was touched by the story behind this book. Written by William E. Thomas but it came to be published because of his grandson. William Thomas has Alzheimer’s now. I admire his grandson's affection for his grandfather and his willingness to help get his grandfather's story out.

“Powerful, raw and emotive” The Kindle Book Review
"This is an intriguing story, gripping from the first page to the last and full of sorrow, happiness, kindness and heartbreak" Zohar Laor, ManOfLaBook.com

A WEEK OF CELEBRATION!

Today the third and final book of my historical romance series, Another Night Falls of the Tides of Charleston Series, has been released.

Honestly, this is my favorite historical book I’ve written. I love the characters, the setting, the action, and the storyline…

A handsome, brave hero and a beautiful, loyal heroine caught up in the midst of the turmoil of the American Revolution that has become a civil war in the back country of South Carolina. Another Night Falls is filled with the history and romance that surrounded the war that created our country. Set in Charleston when it was known as Charles Town, the story follows the obstacles faced by the two lovers and the sacrifices both are filling to make for each other.

ANOTHER NIGHT FALLS
BLURB

Sumner Meador walked in a world of wealth and privilege as part of Charles Town’s elite, but that was years ago. Now he fights in the Southern backwoods driven by the passion he holds for the Patriot cause, shadowed by his past. Reeling from a devastating defeat at the hands of the British, Sumner seeks haven at his farm, only to find an interloper—an unwelcome and unwanted distraction. He has no time for the young woman or the complications she brings with her, but soon discovers he has no option but to give aid to the stubborn, courageous beauty whether she wants it or not.

A widower, Sumner has been haunted by the death of his wife and is consumed with a desire for revenge. Jane Kilmer has been violently thrust into the midst of the civil war ensuing in the backwoods. Hiding from one of the most dangerous vigilantes, Jane trusts no one. Suddenly, she has no choice but to put her life in Sumner’s hands. Both desire revenge, but neither wants what happens—to fall completely, undeniably in love with each other—so much so, that both are willing to die for the other. And they might have to.

HAMPTON COURT

Last June, my family and I traveled to London. It was my first trip to London. After years of reading and writing about London, I finally got to walk the streets of the history filled city. Visited so many places—the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, museumslots and lots of museumsand Hampton Court.
HAMPTON COURT
I mention Hampton Court last for a reason. I love history. Of course I do, I write historical romances. History fascinates me, like the American Revolution. It’s the reason I wrote the Winds of Betrayal series. It’s more historical fiction at times. Hampton Court pulled me in the same mannerit fascinates me. Why? Not for the structure itself but the people that lived within the walls.

Hampton Court was a gift from Cardinal Wosley to King Henry VIII. King Henry VIIIcan’t say he’s one of my favorite historical figures, but what caught my attention as we explored the castle as well as when we were at the Tower of London was hearing about King Henry.
KING HENRY VIII
LOVELY GARDENS AT HAMPTON COURT
King Henry ruled with absolute power—he thought he was the absolute power. He believed it was his divine right—that his will was God’s. Think about what the man did. Forget his six marriagesthey were bad enoughbut the church. He decided to create a new church—not because he didn’t believe in the Catholic Church, but because he wanted to marry someone else and the church refused him a divorce. Because he had the power he made his people change their religionnot only forced the people to convert but if they didn’t they faced death and not an easy death. Some were burned; others beheadedyou can get the picture.  From all accounts King Henry VIII was a harsh and insecure king. You would have to ask given all he did and had—was he ever happy?
Something about King Henry VIII bothered me as I walked around England. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but when I got home and began to revise Whispers of a Legend, Part Four- Time of the Nuxvenom it hit me. King Henry VIII reminded me of one of my characters—King Edulf. Without realizing it, King Edulf holds traits extremely similar to King Henry VIII. Interesting…

Whispers of Legend, Part Four- Time of the Nuxvenom is coming! The Legend continues….
